Personas revised

In other posts I have been thinking about audience in a general sense, but now is time to relate that to my final project. The goal of this project is to be something a person or group of people can do on their own time, as they watch films and read legal documents as they have the emotional capability to do so. These movie directed by Deepa Mehta will be covering some heavy topics, viewers of my exhibit have a chance to walk away and digest the information as they choose.

Persona One:

For my exhibit there are two specific groups of people that I am looking toward as my target audience. This exhibit will be mostly focusing on parents, mostly father figures around 40 or 50 years of age, that are interested in political and social changes in India that would affect women the same ages as their daughters/nieces/etc. This is where they can have a personal connection to the issue by watching movies and read the legal acts that would have affected them. They can connect with things that are still relevant today, like the Age of Consent Act of 1929 which had to be revised again and again 1949, 1978, and as an official amendment in 2015.

Personally and emotionally connecting with the material is, I would argue, the most important part of understand a subject fully. Also since I am looking at middle aged parents, I will be not aiming for a technical level of a site. This will have just enough technology that these adults can get around the site and interact with what’s there, without too many instructions or difficulty.

Persona Two:

With this secondary group, I will be looking in a more niche. This will be a group of women with a higher education and more comfortable with viewing films as a social and political commentary. I am thinking that this group will be able to use this site as a conversation starter within their class or research. This can be for current students or those who have already started their career. The goal is to show how women’s rights has taken a long time to improve and change, but there is still more to discuss. One of these women can show how Age of Consent took so long to change or how we still have debates today over feminine products for anyone with a period. The viewer can show a connection between the movies, documentaries like Padman, and LGBTQ+ rights. This group is more accustomed to heavier topics, so I believe that won’t be an issue but the site still allows them to search at their own pace.
