Class ExperiencesTeaching and Learning History in the Digital Age

Final Project Update!

What I Have So Far:

I have started really sculpting out the major pieces of the site. I wanted to start with a “Pre-class” small questionnaire, so that no matter how little or how much I have time to add, I have a basic bone structure of what students should walk away with. This means that I move away from the broad scope of Emotion history to Mental Health History. It is a bit more specific to the items I have lined up.

As I continue with this project, now and after the class, I plan for this page to be a research starting point. A starting point for student to understand what even is the Early Modern Period and the new social and medical areas being focused on. Once they see what is mental health or disability history, they are now equipped with the basics to ask their own questions. This may take those students down medical, social, political, cultural history, or a mix of those!

What helped me:

Looking at former students projects (the ones left with active pages) I saw a lot of great ideas on how to transition this site from page to page. Hope Curse Diamond was one of the sites that really inspired me to organize my activities across my pages. I want to make sure it is not too overwhelming.

Next steps:

I will be working to finish up what has been fleshed out, like the pre-class form, and start adding my activities. These will be Zoom-ins, and things the students can do on their own. One example will be having the students watch a movie or read a book. I have also learned about a page called H5p where I can put together interactive activities in the web browser! I may use this instead of a Zoom-in.
