Weekly Update #3

We have movement happening!!

I actually accomplished my plan for my network analysis. It turned out a little different than I envisioned, but that is ok! More details on that in a minute. But, I also figured out that a plugin I had activated broke my items so it wouldn’t open correctly. That is a little annoying because the plugin was a YouTube Importer. I was going to use this for the movie trailers, but I’ll just work around it. So the items can actually open on the site! I noticed that my metadata, however, did not save so I will have that headache of reapplying all that.

Back to the network.

I ended up separating the information in to three different visualizations. I did this because, one, I messed up trying to make it one whole piece. Then two, I realized the impact is a little stronger with the simplification. I have visualizations one showing the director and the number of movies being looked at. Visualization two shows how Deepa was the main point connected to several issues within those movies. Then, the third visualization shows that there is the same number of legal documentation (that I have found) directly too all of these issues. That tells me and the other viewers that all of these issues are directly connected to the laws happening at the time. All of these issues that Deepa Mehta pulls at in her movies are interconnected in different ways and related to the deep history of India.

What do I want my site to look like?

This is a question I have been asking myself a lot as we get closer to the end of the semester. I know I do not have all the skills to make my site look as nice as I want. That means that I have been imagining something a bit more complex and technical but know that the site will be a bit simpler. I am ok with this. I also realize that I am a historian, so my main goals are research and attempting to reach the public with the work I do. That means that I have a bit more work to do, on the site and in my head, as I only have about one month left with the semester.
